Effective immediately, we will conclude Phase 1 of campus quarantine. Residential students will transition to Phase 2 of campus quarantine and will be permitted to request leave from campus.

During Phase 2, it is vital that students continue to fully comply with the Student Behavioral Contract and the Daily Health Screening, adhere to the Mask Use Policy, maintain physical distancing, follow hand hygiene guidelines, and adhere strictly to the current “student household” restrictions. While we are all experiencing COVID-19 fatigue and frustration, compliance with these guidelines is critical to keeping our community healthy and safe.

President Mark C. Anarumo updates the Norwich community on the recognition of rooks in the Corps of Cadets, on the Class of 2022’s junior ring distribution and fall celebrations and the university’s plans for in-person Commencement and Joint Commissioning ceremonies for the Class of 2021 in keeping with Vermont health and safety guidelines.

Final Notification

The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA) was signed into federal law on December 27, 2020. The Act included the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) II to support college students whose education has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic with financial grants. Norwich University received funding under this program for the specific purpose of providing financial aid grants to students.

Per Department of Education (DOE) guidance, the HEERF funds must be prioritized for students with exceptional need. Students may use the grant for a component of their cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to the coronavirus such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health care) or childcare. If a student chooses, the grant may be used to satisfy his or her account’s outstanding balance.

As we continue our spring semester planning, we are writing with some news about the Class of 2021 Commencement and Joint Commissioning ceremonies, scheduled for Saturday, May 1. We do not have all of the details yet but wanted to provide you with as much information as we can so you may plan accordingly.

First, it is our intention to hold both Commencement and Joint Commissioning ceremonies on the same day and in-person.  All graduating seniors studying on campus, are commuting, or are studying remotely are invited to participate.

Effective Monday, March 8, the restriction by residential building will be lifted. Residential students will transition to “Phase 1” campus quarantine environment, restricted by published “student household.” All students will be required to remain on campus, but will be allowed to move about the campus more freely. Please note: students will only be allowed to enter the residential buildings and rooms in which members of their student household (defined below) reside. Students will be able to continue participating in outdoor activities as well as institutional programming with appropriate COVID-19 protocols.
