Where rigorous inquiry fuels innovation, service, and national resilience.
Our scholars tackle real-world challenges with a mission-driven focus — advancing cutting-edge work in cybersecurity, national security, engineering, health sciences, the humanities, and the social sciences.
Whether developing solutions for emerging global threats, enhancing community resilience, or shaping the next generation of leaders, Norwich faculty turn ideas into impact. Their research not only elevates the classroom experience but also strengthens the University’s longstanding commitment to service, innovation, and the nation we are proud to serve.
Academic Year 2025-2026 Prize Winner: Dr. Helene Sisti
The Board of Fellows Prize is the premier award of the Faculty Development Program — our most prestigious and well-funded honor. Granted once each year, it supports an ambitious creative, curricular, or scholarly project. Open to tenured and tenure-track faculty (individually or in groups), the Prize provides recognition at the Board of Fellows annual meeting and a platform for a public presentation. Recipients commit ten weeks of focused work and join a select group of faculty recognized for excellence and innovation.
The Charles A. Dana Research Fellowships fuel discovery by supporting bold, creative, and scholarly projects. Available to tenured and tenure-track faculty, these competitive awards may be granted twice for the same project — provided clear progress is demonstrated. Each fellowship offers six weeks of dedicated research time, with outcomes summarized in a brief report. Recipients gain both time and resources to push their work to the next level, with selection guided by the Faculty Development Committee and Provost.
The biannual Homer L. Dodge Award recognizes early-career faculty who have made “distinguished contributions to the academic life of Norwich University through outstanding teaching.” Eligible candidates must be tenured or tenure-track faculty who have at least three full years’ experience teaching full-time at Norwich University, but no more than ten years’ full-time teaching experience at the university level. Candidates will be evaluated based on demonstrated teaching effectiveness, scholarship, and preparation in the subjects taught, the application of scholarship to the classroom, and other evidence of excellence in teaching. Nominations from students, faculty, staff, or alumni — as well as self-nominations — are welcome.
Celebrating scholarship, showcasing impact. Each October, Norwich proudly honors the research and creative achievements of our faculty from the past academic year during the Faculty Scholarship Celebration. In collaboration with the Library Committee, this annual celebration highlights the depth of scholarship across disciplines and the lasting contributions our faculty make to their fields.
Fuel your research, advance your teaching. Tenured and tenure-track faculty can apply for grants to support creative or scholarly projects, cover research expenses, and develop innovative courses or programs. These grants also provide funding to present work and participate in workshops, seminars, conferences, professional meetings, and specialized courses — opening doors to new ideas, collaborations, and professional growth.
Where curiosity meets collaboration. The Curriculum Development Fellowships empower faculty to design and launch courses or programs that go beyond routine revision. Reserved for tenured and tenure-track faculty, these fellowships (up to two per project) reward innovation in teaching that transforms the student experience. Recipients commit six weeks of full-time effort and share results in a brief project report. Competitive and impactful, these awards invest in faculty vision and creativity, helping bring new ideas into the classroom.
