Scott Caulfield named National Strength and Conditioning Association fellow
The University's strength and conditioning coach receives an additional honor from the nation's leading coaching organization.
Scott Caulfield, Norwich University's director of strength and conditioning, has been named a fellow of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), one of the organization's highest honors.
The distinction recognizes professionals whose sustained contributions have advanced the mission and long-term goals of the association. Fellows are selected through an application process that evaluates professional service, leadership, scholarship, presentations, and other contributions to the field of strength and conditioning.
"As the main governing body for strength and conditioning professionals in the U.S., the NSCA provides the essential credentials for employment in collegiate and professional sports," said Caulfield. "The organization supports its members by offering continuing education, networking events, and other career-long opportunities. Relying on volunteer leaders dedicated to advancing the profession, the NSCA has been integral to my own professional development throughout my career."
"Being recognized as a fellow is one of the most significant milestones of my career," he said. "It's a true honor to be acknowledged for making substantial contributions to the strength and conditioning profession."
According to the NSCA, fellows must hold an advanced degree in a health-related field, maintain at least 10 years of professional membership, attend multiple annual conferences, secure recommendations from current fellows, and demonstrate extensive professional contributions across publications, presentations, service, certifications, and leadership."
"This distinction is particularly meaningful as it can be challenging for full-time strength and conditioning coaches to achieve. The fellow status often requires academic work, such as contributing to research studies, publications, and public speaking," said Caulfield. "Earning this recognition shows I have gone beyond my primary duties and outside my comfort zone to stay current with the latest research and advancements in our field. It signifies a level of experties and dedication to the NSCA and its mission that I am incredibly proud to embody."
Caulfield also serves as the president of the NSCA Foundation's Board of Directors, the organization's philanthropic arm that supports scholarships, grants, and professional development opportunities for coaches, researchers, and students. His leadership role within the foundation adds further context to the fellowship designation and reflects his longstanding involvement in the profession beyond his work at Norwich.
"I am honored to be recognized among a select group of individuals for my knowledge, experience, and contributions to the NSCA community," said Caulfield. "It is a privilege to stand alongside other accomplished professionals in the field — coaches, researchers, and educators — many of whom I have looked up to in my career."
For Norwich, the recognition underscores the national standing of a coach whose work connects student-athletes at the University to one of the leading professional organizations in strength and conditioning.
