Norwich University’s School of Architecture + Art lecture series continues Thursday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m. in the Chaplin Hall Gallery with Exploring Architectural Literacy and the Neuroscience of Architecture, a lecture by associate professor and associate dean of the College of Professional Schools, Cara Armstrong.
The series is free and open to the public and can be live-streamed HERE.
Armstrong’s impactful multidisciplinary perspective is informed by a master's degree in architecture from Columbia University, an MFA in poetry from Drew University, and dual undergraduate degrees in environmental design and interdisciplinary studies from Miami University. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture, dedicated to the advancement of international, interdisciplinary neuro-architectural education and practice. She contributed a chapter, "Drawing from Within: Immersive Sketching as Neuroscientific Inquiry," in the recently published "Routledge Handbook of Neuroscience and the Built Environment."
Armstrong’s interdisciplinary expertise and research bridge creative and technical disciplines, as reflected in recent writing and art exhibitions. She has published children’s books, poetry, illustrations, and essays that explore architecture and creativity. Her artwork has been showcased in prominent venues such as the Boston Architecture College and Crystal Bridges Museum, alongside local exhibitions like "Everyday Alchemy" at the T.W. Wood Museum in Montpelier and "Aloft" at Mad River Valley Arts in Waitsfield.
Through her art, writing, and teaching, she continues to explore how built environments shape human behavior, perception, and resilience, offering innovative insights into the transformative power of design.
