Men’s Basketball: Norwich receives NABC Team Academic Excellence Award; five named to Honors Court

The Norwich University men's basketball team earned 2025-26 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Academic Excellence Award recognition, while five Cadets were named to the NABC Honors Court, as announced by the organization.

Seniors Charles Nogard '26 and Joe Joe DuBrul '26, along with juniors Niklas Nordberg '27, Quinn Twombly '27, and Riley Severy '27, each earned individual Honors Court recognition.

The NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards recognize men's college basketball programs that completed the 2025-26 academic year with a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. The NABC Honors Court recognizes junior, senior, and graduate student-athletes who finished the academic year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.

This year, more than 400 programs across all levels of college basketball received NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards, while over 2,300 student-athletes earned spots on the NABC Honors Court.

"College basketball student-athletes do incredible things on the court, but their achievements in the classroom are equally worthy of celebration," said NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson. "Education is one of the NABC's core values, and the hundreds of programs and thousands of athletes represented on these awards reinforce the commitment to academic success that exists across all levels of our sport."

Nogard, a senior leadership major, and DuBrul, a senior management major, both capped off their senior seasons as part of a class that helped the Cadets reach the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament in each of the last three seasons.

DuBrul was also named Norwich's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year at the department's 22nd Annual Senior Athlete Recognition Luncheon after completing his academic career with a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA while serving as a key contributor for the men's basketball program.

Nordberg, an accounting major, Twombly, a computer science major, and Severy, an electrical and computer engineering major, represented Norwich among the junior honorees, giving the Cadets three rising senior student-athletes recognized for their work in the classroom.

The academic recognition follows a 2025-26 season in which Norwich finished 10-16 overall and 5-7 in GNAC play. The Cadets earned their third consecutive GNAC Tournament appearance before closing the year in the conference quarterfinal round at top-seeded Saint Joseph's College of Maine.

Norwich also received postseason recognition on the court earlier this year, as senior Michel Ndayishimiye '26 was named to the GNAC All-Conference Third Team after ranking among the league leaders in scoring and rebounding during his lone season with the Cadets.

The NABC's academic awards are presented annually to men's basketball teams and student-athletes across all levels of college basketball, recognizing programs and players who pair athletic commitment with sustained classroom achievement.
