Living the Norwich Values: A Lasting Impact Through Kindness
A simple act of kindness by Norwich alum Victor Hinojosa ’21 exemplifies how the University’s Guiding Values continue to shape lives and create lasting impact far beyond The Hill.

The Guiding Values of Norwich University not only flourish on The Hill but resonate in society, influencing and shaping it through remarkable actions both large and small. Every day, Norwich alumni breathe life into these values, and their actions leave a lasting impact, though the impact of these efforts may not always be recognized in the moment. Victor Hinojosa, a Class of 2021 graduate who earned his bachelor’s degree in political science, recently took to social media expressing the profound power in the act of kindness, proving once again how integral our Guiding Values are. Each act, each deed, each time a Norwich individual lives out the Guiding Values is a testament to their importance in shaping the world around them.
His post:
I received this message today from someone who once called 911; I responded to help. They were new to the U.S., stranded, and scared.
Today, years later, they reached out to say thank you as they prepare to graduate.
Moments like this are a reminder that small acts of service can leave lasting impacts. As a proud alum, I carry the Norwich values with me every day. It’s humbling to see those values come full circle.
Norwich Forever.
The email he received:
Thank you
Hi Officer Hinojosa,
I hope this message finds you well. I’m reaching out to say thank you – a few years ago, when I first arrived in the U.S., you gave me a ride to Norwich University after I called 911. I was stranded, nervous, and new to everything, but your kindness made a lasting impact.
I’m now graduating in three weeks, and while talking with Professor Jeremy Hansen about that moment, he recognized your name and helped me find your contact. I just wanted to say thank you again – I’ve never forgotten that act of kindness, and it meant more than you know.
Wishing you all the best,
