Norwich University Founder’s Day

On August 6, 1819, Alden Partridge laid the first bricks of a revolutionary idea—to create a university that blended military discipline, academic excellence, and moral purpose, paving the way for the establishment of the American Literary, Scientific and Military Academy.

That idea became Norwich University, and two centuries later, its mission continues to thrive because of you. Today’s students walk in the footsteps of Alden Partridge and yours. They train, study, lead, and live by the same values that define our community: honor, integrity, perseverance, and purpose.

At Norwich, students engage in a vibrant, purpose-driven learning community grounded in American values and shaped by global awareness. Norwich students and alumni lead with integrity, collaborate with intention, and uphold the honor code, engaging in experiential learning opportunities that align with the vision of our founder, Alden Partridge, who aimed to cultivate the leaders of tomorrow.

Every generation of the Norwich family—alumni, parents, friends, and supporters—has added to this legacy. You have mentored students, stood behind our mission, supported our growth, and ensured that Norwich remains a place where leadership is forged, character is tested, and service is honored. As we mark this day, know that you are not just part of Norwich’s story—you help write its future.

Your support, your pride, and your belief in Norwich continue to shape the university. Thank you for everything you do, and for being part of a tradition 205 years strong.
