The Be You, Be True Prize

The Be You, Be True Prize is given to the best literary work by a Norwich LBGTQ+ writer or about the LGBTQ+ experience. This prize is made possible by Norwich University’s Title IX office.

The Allan Nason Prize

Allan Leonard Hastings Nason (1889-1970) was a Norwich graduate of 1920. Nason was an untamed spirit, and it shows in his writing. He wrote about war and soldiers, and his characters are not respectful of authority. Typically, they are trying to find a way to come out ahead, though not at the expense of the war effort. His accounts of war focus on an individual in relation to the whole war machine, and the way the machine grinds all down. The Allan Nason Prize goes to the best piece of writing that deals with Corps of Cadets life or war.

The Robert Halleck Poetry Prize

Robert Halleck is a 1964 graduate of Norwich University. Poetry has been a love of his for over 60 years. He lives in Del Mar, California, with his wife Della Janis. Bob is a member of San Diego’s Not Dead Yet Poets and hopes to continue with that group for many years. A Google search for Robert Halleck Poetry will turn up his latest work. The Robert Halleck Poetry Prize is awarded to the best poem by a Norwich student.

The Chameleon Award for Outstanding Achievement in Creative Writing

The Chameleon Award for Outstanding Achievement in Creative Writing is decided on by Chameleon editors and highlights the best creative writing written by a Norwich University student.

The Chameleon Literary Journal has served as Norwich University’s arts and creative writing magazine since its found in 1961.

The Chameleon is a student driven publication that publishes the best visual and literary arts by Norwich students. These creative works come from students across all majors, from residential and online students, and from undergraduate and graduate students. We are, as of 2020, working to become a multilingual literary journal, highlighting student creative writing and translations in multiple languages.

The Chameleon student editors select all creative works and give out three creative writing awards, each with financial prizes. Those three prizes are the Allan Nason Prize, the Robert Halleck Poetry Prize, the Chameleon Award for Outstanding Achievement in Creative Writing, and the Be You, Be True Prize.
