PLEASE NOTE: In the abundance of caution and for the health and safety of the Norwich and central Vermont community, the Norwich campus is closed to the public for the foreseeable future to include all buildings, fields and tracks. Thank you for your understanding.
Actions the university has taken to ensure the health and safety of our students include the following:
Because of the interruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Norwich University will provide a prorated refund to students for unused Spring 2020 room and board, health services and student activities fees. This calculation is based on the number of days students were not on campus this spring semester.
The spring term began Jan. 12 and ends May 2, for 112 days total. The unused services period began on the first day of Spring Break, March 7; therefore, there were 57 days of unused services, or 51% of the spring semester.
The calculation works this way:
Although all Norwich students are charged the same amount for tuition, room and board and mandatory fees, the amount each student pays is determined by the amount of scholarships and grants from Norwich and other financial aid sources that each student receives.
Therefore, Norwich will adjust refunds for individual circumstances, accounting for the effects of gift aid from Norwich and other sources. For example refund scenarios, peruse this PDF.
Graduating seniors will be eligible for a refund if the credit creates a balance due. Students who are continuing their studies may apply the refund to their fall 2020 charges or receive payouts.
Students, please click here to elect how you’d like us to handle their credit balance. You can expect to see this activity on your account by April 12 and receive an email notification when a new account statement, which includes the services credit, has been posted to NUPay.
Commuter students will receive a prorated share of the Student Activities Fee using the previously described methodology. We will also refund a prorated share of the Laundry Services Fee for those students who paid for this service.
Norwich will not be prorating the Information Technology Fee, as these services are still being fully provided, albeit remotely, to all students. There will also not be a prorated refund of the Vehicle Registration Fee, as those fees were spent in advance on the new parking lot.
All spring semester courses will be remote effective Monday, March 23, 2020.
