34The following 34 U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps ROTC students have shown leadership, military achievement, exemplary moral character and overarching patriotism and professionalism. Their high academic achievement, moral character, compassion for peers and devotion to community have made them examples of Norwich excellence.


Bunnell Book Presentation is awarded by the North Country Uniformed Services Association to an outstanding sophomore cadet in each ROTC branch.

The Zybura Award is awarded to graduating seniors who possess a high sense of honor and an appreciation for military history, and a genuine compassion for other people. This award is given in memory of Henry Zybura who embodied all of these traits and shared his humor and friendship with others in the Norwich community.

The Chief of Naval Operations Distinguished Midshipman Graduate Award is awarded to the graduating Navy or Marine Corps option senior who demonstrates the highest standards of leadership, academic and military performance within the Norwich University community, Naval ROTC department, and the Corps of Cadets.

USS Montpelier Association Award is awarded to a graduating senior to be commissioned in the Navy who distinguished themselves thru scholastic achievement, leadership, and excellence of character.

Association of the United States Navy Patriotism Award is presented to a NROTC junior who demonstrates Honor, Courage and Commitment.

Glock NROTC Leadership Award is presented to the senior Marine and Navy Midshipmen who were chosen by the members of Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Unit, to have most embodied those virtues of military officership and leadership throughout their time as a member of the naval battalion. This individual is emulated by subordinates, sought out by their peers, and admired by their superiors for their personal and professional contributions to the Norwich University NROTC unit.

BGen Warren E. Sweetser, Jr. USMC Award was established by William Sweetser, Class of 1963, in memory of his father. Presented to an outstanding senior who expresses the honesty, loyalty, and spirt of the Marine Corps and who will be commissioned in the U.S. Marine Corps upon graduation.

The Marine Corps League Award is presented to the graduating Marine Corps option senior who consistently demonstrated leadership from the front and who maintained an outstanding record throughout the Bulldog Program and Officer Candidate School.

Naval Submarine League’s Frederick B. Warder Award is awarded to a graduating Navy senior with proven academic and leadership skills who has been selected for entry into the Navy's nuclear propulsion program as a submarine warfare officer.

Surface Navy Association Award | Within the academic community, the Academic and Military Excellence Award is presented to the top 1/C midshipman who will be entering the surface warfare community. The midshipman must have demonstrated qualities of strong leadership, teamwork, initiative, and possesses high moral character and integrity. The award consists of a plaque and a three-year membership to the Surface Navy Association.

Bernard A. Schriever Award (AFCEA) is awarded to an upcoming junior or senior cadet/midshipman who is majoring in a scientific/technical field and demonstrates outstanding officer potential.

Brig. Gen. Elizabeth P. Hoisington Award is awarded to the top senior female Cadets seeking a commission. Brig. Gen.Hoisington was the second woman and first Women’s Army Corps officer to be promoted to the rank of general officer in 1970.
