Naval and Marine Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (NROTC)

By pursuing Naval ROTC, either the U.S. Navy or U.S. Marine Corps track, you’ll prepare explore oceans, push your limits and achieve things that you never thought possible, whether ships, submarines or planes. You’ll learn from top-flight commanders and mentors (Norwich’s NROTC officers come wide range of communities and have deployed around the world). You’ll prepare to enter Navy’s unrestricted line, Navy Nurse Corps and U.S. Marine Corps, be part of something greater than yourselves, keep America safe. You’ll also make lifelong friends and poise yourself to succeed in any life path you follow. All you need to do is join.
Navy Option
Students selected to commission through the NROTC program can influence their professional future through their career selection process. Navy option midshipmen may request their occupational designation: surface warfare officer (SWO), submarine warfare officer, special warfare officer (EOD or SEALs), Naval aviator, and Naval flight officer. Navy option midshipmen will be assigned a designator during their senior year. Upon commissioning, they will begin the training pipeline for their assigned designator.
A select few individuals annually receive the opportunity to become a Nurse Corps officer through selection for the highly competitive Nursing Scholarship, awarded during the senior year of high school.
Marine Option
The Marine Corps program is designed to instill the ethos of Marine first and job second. All Marine option midshipmen upon commissioning are designated as ground officers or aviation officers. All ground officers will have the opportunity to earn a designation of their choice into combat arms, combat service support, and aviation support while they attend the Basic School in Quantico, Virginia.
ROTC participants interested in serving as Marine aviators will have the opportunity to earn their designation before commissioning. To qualify, they must pass the Aviation Selection Test Battery (ASTB) and an aviation physical.

Scholarships are merit-based, therefore students pursuing a technical major tend to receive priority in the selection process. With a variety of technical majors, and our DoD-sponsored Cyber Institute, Norwich will help you achieve your goals.
Leadership at our Corps
The ROTC programs are integrated with the Corps of Cadets. Membership in the Corps of Cadets is required to contract and pursue an ROTC commission.

Meet the Challenge
Every year the Semper Fidelis Society puts on the Walter N. Levy Challenge, a 6.5-mile endurance course spread out over the Norwich Campus, Paine Mountain, and the Dog River. The event raises money for the Semper Fi and Americas Fund, a non-profit that serves service members, veterans, and their families.

“Following graduation and commissioning, I will be attending Basic Division Officer Course and Junior Officer of the Deck schools to learn ship handling and seamanship. Afterward, I go to Yokosuka, Japan, to serve as a surface warfare officer on the USS Blue Ridge LCC-19, an amphibious command ship for all of Seventh Fleet. After qualifying as officer of the deck (OOD) onboard, I will be laterally transferring to designator 1810, cryptologic warfare officer. This highly selective community specializes in cryptology, space, signals intelligence, cyberspace operations and electronic warfare to achieve global military objectives. ”
