THE ALUMNI MAGAZINE OF NORWICH UNIVERSITY

The Norwich Record | Fall 2019

Maj. R. Byron Breese, USAF (Ret.)
Adjunct professor of philosophy

“My hair is out of reg. I try to get (it) cut monthly. But sometimes it’s tough.”

Retired Air Force officer lapel pin. During a 22- year career, Breese taught ROTC officer leadership at Cornell and ran drug treatment programs.

Taught “Think!” intro to philosophy class this summer, examining works ranging from Plato and Socrates to Cornell West and Slavoj Zizek — the “Elvis” of contemporary philosophers.

“I want students to know that philosophy is going to be as deep as they hope, as frustrating as they fear, and as hip as they can imagine.”

Second pair of boots in this style. These have walked the streets of Europe, World War I battlefields, and art museums.
