NORWICH UPDATES

Keeping our Norwich students and community informed and safe.

spring 2021 covid testing

PLEASE NOTE: In the abundance of caution and for the health and safety of the Norwich and central Vermont community, the Norwich campus is closed to the public for the foreseeable future to include all buildings, fields and tracks. Thank you for your understanding.

As the birthplace of ROTC, Norwich University takes immense pride in producing exceptional military leaders for our country. The Class of 2021 includes 169 commissionees representing four branches. I am especially delighted that Maj. Gen. Gary Keefe, U.S. Air Force, retired, NU’86 and Adjutant General of the Massachusetts National Guard, has graciously accepted our invitation to deliver the Joint Commissioning Ceremony keynote address at this event.

The 2021 Joint Commissioning ceremony will occur at 3 p.m. outdoors on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in Shapiro Fieldhouse.

Individual Service Commissioning ceremonies will begin at 4:15 p.m. Army will host their event on Sabine Field (or Shapiro Fieldhouse in inclement weather). The Air Force event will be held on the steps of Jackman Hall (or in Mack Hall Auditorium in inclement weather), and the Naval program will occur on the Wise Campus Center Green (or in Plumley Armory if weather conditions warrant an indoor event). Commissionees may invite up to four (4) fully vaccinated guests in total to attend the in-person events on campus. Two (2) fully vaccinated guests to be attendees at the Commencement ceremony and two (2) additional fully vaccinated guests to administer the commissioning oath and receive the first salute at the commissioning ceremonies. Guests must have a ticket to attend the events and will only be permitted to enter the location annotated on their ticket(s).

All Commencement and Joint Commissioning events will be livestreamed for off-campus audiences unable to attend in-person. We recognize that requiring guests to be ticketed in order to observe and be part of our most cherished event is a shift from past practice and appreciate your patience and understanding; these rules are to ensure compliance with Vermont guidelines, which carry the rule of law.
