Expect Challenge. Achieve Distinction.

Keeping our Norwich students and community informed and safe.

As the spring semester draws to a close, students may be electing to leave campus early and conclude their spring semester studies remotely. Students and their families may understandably have questions about whether Norwich University will refund students a prorated amount of room and board for the unused Spring 2021 semester. The answer is yes if a student requests to go remote and leaves the campus on or before April 12, 2021.

To switch from residential to remote study, the student needs to contact their academic advisor to inform them about their decision to leave the campus. They also must inform their housing officer (Company mentors for Corps students and the Director of Residence Life and Civilian Housing for civilians) of their plan to leave and arrange for the check-out process.

The prorated calculation is based on the number of days you were not on campus this spring semester. It is important to note that all Norwich students are charged the same amount for tuition, room and board, and mandatory fees. However, the amount a student actually pays is determined by the amount of scholarships and grants from Norwich and other financial aid sources that each student receives. Please be aware that any reduction in residence hall charges may also adjust grants and scholarships due to the change in charges.

With this in mind, Norwich will be providing a refund to each student that takes into account the impact that Norwich gift aid and gift aid from all other sources has on each student's individual circumstance.

Please note that if a student leaves campus after April 12, 2021, their room and board charges will not be prorated, and the student will be liable for the full amount. The staff in the Bursar's Office is available to provide remote support.
