Expect Challenge. Achieve Distinction.

NORWICH UPDATES

Keeping our Norwich students and community informed and safe.

Effective immediately, we will conclude Phase 1 of campus quarantine. Residential students will transition to Phase 2 of campus quarantine and will be permitted to request leave from campus.

During Phase 2, it is vital that students continue to fully comply with the Student Behavioral Contract and the Daily Health Screening, adhere to the Mask Use Policy, maintain physical distancing, follow hand hygiene guidelines, and adhere strictly to the current “student household” restrictions. While we are all experiencing COVID-19 fatigue and frustration, compliance with these guidelines is critical to keeping our community healthy and safe.

Please review the following information respective to Phase 2 conditions and compliance:

PHASE 2 – CAMPUS LEAVE

Students will be permitted to leave campus with prior approval as stipulated in the lifestyle leave request process.

  • Residential cadets should submit leave requests as outlined in the process through their company mentor in each barrack.
  • Residential civilian students should submit leave requests as outlined in the process through the Residence Life staff, using the short-term excursions link. Flyers with a QR code link will be posted outside of RA room doors, outside the Residence Life Office, and Civilian Hall main lobbies.

Students who are off campus with approved leave shall continue closely adhering to Vermont state guidelines for households.

Leave will be restricted to 30% of the residential campus population at one time. Seniors will receive priority consideration and will NOT be restricted by the 30% rule. Additional restrictions may be imposed, including restricting the amount of leave time allotted per student to ensure a fair process and opportunities.

Leave shall be limited to Washington and Orange counties in Vermont.

Return from leave will follow a strict 10 p.m. curfew Sunday through Thursday, and midnight Friday and Saturday on the day of the approved leave. Any overnight leave must be approved through the lifestyle leave request process and will require room quarantine upon return to campus. To coordinate room quarantine for return from leave, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. before departing campus for leave.

Students assigned to room quarantine or isolation will not be eligible for leave until the quarantine or isolation assignment is completed.

ON CAMPUS ACTIVITIES

Students will be able to continue participating in outdoor activities and institutional programming with appropriate COVID-19 protocols. The Campus Activities & Recreation Board and the Shaw Outdoor Center will be providing on and off campus outdoor recreation activities. INSTITUTIONAL PROGRAMMING

We are working very hard to find ways to provide students with programming, especially exercise and outdoor activities, while prioritizing public health and safety to prevent further spread of the virus. Students will be able to continue participating in outdoor activities and some indoor physical activities mandated safety restrictions.

OFF-CAMPUS PT UPDATE

Off-campus PT does not require approved leave. Students are permitted to run and conduct PT activities off campus. Students are required to adhere to the current Mask Use Policy and the Student Behavioral Contract, and are strictly prohibited from stopping anywhere off campus, interacting with the community, and entering any off-campus buildings or businesses while conducting PT.

WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP REDUCE SPREAD?

Stay informed: Health conditions can change in the area and on our campus. Stay up-to-date with the most current campus information so you know what requirements or conditions are changing on campus. Be smart, protect yourself from the virus:

    • After you visit or have a visitor in your room, use sanitizing wipes to disinfect your space. Clean your chairs, computers, phones, chairs, desktops, etc.
    • After you visit the restroom, use a sanitizing wipe for the area you used including the sink and door handles.
    • Wear your mask, wear it properly — cover your nose and your mouth.
    • Wash your hands frequently, especially before and after eating and after using the restroom.

Enjoy your opportunities to engage with others while keeping your physical distance. Limit close face-to-face contact.

Avoid gatherings: We know that outbreaks and spread occurs at gatherings, especially when masks are not worn, and distancing is not maintained. Norwich students are expected to adhere to their published student household and the current student household guidance for all social gatherings.

REMINDER: Fully vaccinated individuals and households are now able to gather with other fully vaccinated individuals or households. Additionally, unvaccinated households may get together with one other unvaccinated household, and as many vaccinated individuals and households as they wish.

Keep your distance when together and be outside as much as possible when you are together.

Complete the Daily Health Screening. When someone is sick or has had possible exposure to COVID-19, avoiding being around others will reduce the chance of spread. Students, faculty, and staff are required to complete the Daily Health Screening, check temperature, and note any symptoms. Call NU Health Services (802) 485-2552 immediately to report symptoms.
