Nearly 200 Years—Learn More About Norwich

THE NORWICH OFFICE OF DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION (DEI) in conjunction with the Leadership, Education, Advocacy, and Prevention (LEAP) Committee is offering a wide range of programming for the remainder of March and April that will touch on topics of dating violence, diversity, sexual misconduct, survivor stories, equity for women, and broad inclusion. LEAP week, running from March 25-30, will feature daily events with a weeklong raffle for prizes.

Norwich Women Leading the Way

Eric Alva: “Creating an Accepting Military Culture”

March 26: 7 p.m.

Mack Auditorium

The first American soldier injured in the Iraq War, Eric was hailed as an American hero. He played an instrumental role in the repeal of the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy on gay, lesbian, and bisexual service members. As a gay man, disabled veteran, and U.S. citizen of Hispanic and Native American heritage, Eric knows about overcoming obstacles and navigating complex intersectionality. Eric’s overall story of courage and triumph over adversity inspires audiences to create change by doing the right thing by standing up for what they believe in.

Love Better Pledge

March 27-28: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. daily

a tabling event where people can take a pledge to bring healthier behaviors into their relationships and to help create a culture where people can “#LoveBetter”.

Escalation Workshop

March 28: 7 p.m.

Location TBD

Workshop facilitated by the One Love Foundation to start an intimate conversation about relationship violence and how to be an upstander instead of a bystander. All athletics teams are required to complete an escalation workshop this academic year.

One Love 5K Race

March 30: 9 a.m.

The NU Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is holding a One Love 5K Race which will start on Norwich University’s campus and run through the town of Northfield. Registration for the 5K is open to all students, faculty, staff, and community members. During registration, a $10 payment will be required, and registrants will receive a Nike T-shirt designed by a Norwich University student (cadets will have a Dress-Down Day), entrance to the race, and admission to the Lacrosse games later that day. The first male and first female to finish the race will each be awarded with a free pair of Nike sneakers. Registration is set to close March 25, 2019. Learn more and register.

One Love Lacrosse Games

March 30: 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Norwich University’s Athletic Department is dedicating a Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse game to the One Love Foundation that works towards understanding between a healthy and unhealthy relationship. During the games, teams will wear One Love warm-ups, a community resource fair will be held in Doyle, a resource scavenger hunt with prizes, and PSAs on dating violence will be read over the loud speaker throughout.

C is for Consent

April 2: 7 p.m.

Mack Auditorium

Lines remain blurred because the law instead rests on how the accused and the court have comprehended the victim’s words, actions and silence. But the ‘C’ word is not ‘comprehend’. The ‘C’ word is not ‘construe’. The ‘C’ word is ‘consent’.

Equal Pay Workshop

April 10: Noon

Todd Multipurpose Room, Kreitzberg Library

Salary-negotiation workshop focused on providing women with the tools to help close the wage gap.
