NORTHFIELD, Vt. —Norwich University’s School of Architecture + Art continues this year’s lecture series with a presentation by Matt Wittman, AIA LEED AP and Jody Estes, co-principals of Wittman Estes at 4 p.m. this Friday, October 7 in Chaplin Hall Gallery.

This event is free and open to the public. Those wishing to join the event remotely on Friday, October 7 starting at 4 p.m. may do so via Microsoft Teams.

About Matt Wittman:
Matt, founding principal of Wittman Estes is best known for innovative housing design that continues the modernist tradition of integration with nature and doing more with less. He received his Master of Architecture in 2003 from UC Berkeley, where he was awarded the Gerson Prize for Design Excellence. In 2021 he received the AIA National Housing award. Matt is a licensed architect in Washington, California, and Idaho, and is a LEED accredited professional. He is currently a visiting critic at the University of Oregon and University of Washington Departments of Architecture.

About Jody Estes:
Jody received her Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Washington in 1999, and her Master of Architecture from UC Berkeley in 2003. She has studied Architectural History, with a focus on mid-century modern housing and landscapes and has she designed numerous award winning residential and multi-family landscapes in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest.

Their body of work attempts to blur boundaries between buildings and gardens to rebalance the relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces and celebrate connection to nature and experience. Each member of their design team has a keen interest in, and knowledge of, the natural world. They collectively bring expertise in prefabricated architecture and ecology to their award-winning body of work. Wittman Estes design projects have been featured in galleries and exhibits in Seattle and San Francisco and published widely including in Dwell, Dezeen, ArchDaily, Gardenista, and Luxe.

A generous grant from the Jack and Dorothy Byrne Foundation, a philanthropic organization supporting cancer research, education, volunteerism and other charitable endeavors, backs the School of Architecture + Art Lecture Series. For more than 10 years, the Byrne Foundation and Norwich University have partnered to bring eminent national and international architects, designers, artists and writers to campus. Events are free and open to the public.

Norwich University’s School of Architecture + Art is the only National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB)-accredited architecture school in Vermont and one of only two in northern New England.
