Maymester students see the sights, taste the cuisine in trip abroad
EDITOR’S NOTE: Here’s a virtual postcard from the 2022 Maymester in Germany, a three-week excursion that gives Norwich University students a concentrated study-away experience. For some students, Maymester will be a prelude to a full semester abroad.

W e have done several very interesting things in our first two weeks. First, we were given a guided tour from one of the professors at CityLab:Berlin in Germany. He told us about the history of Berlin and the many good and bad times in the city. Most impressive was the Brandenberg Gate, its history, going back to before Napoleon, the Third Reich, Joseph Stalin, and the Berlin Wall.
Next, we visited Hamburg for the weekend. The group visited the many museums, the Chocolate Museum, the Maritime Museum, and the Gallery of Illusions. We were able to visit the financial district and Hamburg’s famous harbor
The following weekend, four students flew to Athens, Greece, to take in the Acropolis and the many museums that went back in history 2000 years. We were also able to enjoy the beaches of Greece and crystal-clear water.
With the monthly subway pass, students were able to explore Berlin and the surrounding area, Checkpoint Charlie and a detailed timeline of the Berlin Wall, the many museums on Museum Island, the Mall of Berlin, the zoo, and a concentration camp.
The area surrounding the apartments and CityLab allowed the students to find most every cuisine.
We still have six more days!
