NORTHFIELD, Vt. — The Norwich University Athletic Department on Thursday announced the cancellation of all scheduled intercollegiate competition through Tuesday, Feb. 23.

Although the university community’s COVID-19-positive case count stood at 18 Thursday, Norwich officials decided to cancel all competition out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety of the student-athletes, coaches and staff.

The canceled games include men’s hockey’s home-and-home series versus Castleton University scheduled for Friday and Saturday, and the men’s basketball home-and-home series with Northern Vermont University, Lyndon scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.

The women’s basketball team’s Tuesday, Feb. 23, home game vs. Northern Vermont University, Johnson was also canceled.

The women’s hockey team’s home-and-home series with Plymouth State scheduled for Friday and Saturday was canceled Wednesday after a rise in COVID-19-positive cases on Plymouth State’s campus.
