NORTHFIELD, Vt. — Norwich University will host 2020 Homecoming events in a virtual format, “From the Hill to your Home,” Oct. 1 to 3 with many innovative virtual gatherings and some livestreamed events planned.
With approximately 24,000 living alumni, Homecoming Weekend is always a popular event on campus. Last year’s Bicentennial Homecoming drew 6,000 people to Northfield for the weekend’s festivities. Keeping in line with Vermont rules on large gatherings because of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year the events will be virtual.
Meetings of affinity groups and supporting organizations will take place on Oct. 1 and 2. On Friday, Oct. 2, viewers can tune into NUTV from 4 to 6 p.m. to livestream the Homecoming Kickoff and Welcome from President Mark C. Anarumo; the Corps of Cadets Review with Retreat; launch of the Shoulder-to-Shoulder fundraising initiative and the Bicentennial Concert by Norwich’s Regimental Band, the country’s oldest collegiate band.
Other events include:
The Grit Games— since intercollegiate sports have been canceled this fall, we have partnered with the Semper Fidelis Society to create an obstacle course competition for our fall athletes
Valor Project — The Norwich University Sullivan Museum and History Center will announce a new, permanent interactive exhibit to honor Norwich alumni who have been recognized for valor. The ceremony is at 2:15 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2.
Drill Team Reunion — Norwich’s drill team was established over 80 years ago, and this virtual reunion will celebrate all who have been members over the years as well as current students.
Friday night social events:
- Pints with the Pres—a virtual happy hour with President Mark C. Anarumo.
- All-Class Trivia Competition—hosted by Regimental Commander Caleb Miller ’21, this will include a combination of Norwich trivia and general knowledge.
- Virtual Wine & Cheese Tasting—a partnership with the California vineyard that has been producing Norwich’s wine, plus Vermont food producers Cabot Cheese and Dakin Farms. \
Get up and go! In the spirit of our guiding values around being physically fit, we are offering several opportunities for folks to get out and move.
