Educational institutions throughout the United States celebrate the anniversary of the completion of the Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787. This day came about due to Senator Robert C. Byrd of West Virginia’s desire to increase student knowledge of the United States Constitution. Something he felt they were lacking. In 2004 the amendment passed by both the House and Senate, establishing the annual federal observance of Constitution Day. The law requires all educational institutions receiving federal funds implement educational programs relating to the United States Constitution on September 17th of each year. Click here to learn more about Constitution Day at Norwich University.
