Christine Latulippe joined the Department of Mathematics at Norwich University in 2011 and was appointed associate dean for the College of Science and Mathematics in 2017.
She holds a BA in Mathematics from Sonoma State University, a MEd in Special Education to teach the Deaf and Hard of Hearing from Lewis and Clark College, and a PhD in Mathematics Education from Montana State University.
As a mathematics educator, Latulippe teaches Norwich’s courses for pre-service elementary and secondary teachers, including MA 160 & MA 161 (mathematics content for elementary school teachers), and MA 360 & MA 361 (mathematics teaching methods courses for elementary and secondary teachers, respectively). She also regularly teaches general education mathematics courses like MA 101, 102 and 232. Latulippe’s research interests center on teacher professional development. She has experience providing professional development to current classroom teachers around new policies (e.g., Common Core State Standards) and practices (e.g., Proficiency-Based Learning and Assessment) that will impact teaching in Vermont. She strives to prepare Norwich’s future K-12 teachers for the classroom by connecting research and practice and expanding their awareness of what the best teachers are doing in today’s classrooms. One example is a three-part assignment in which Norwich students first read an article about elementary teachers using a “Math Trail” for math instruction, then participate in a Norwich Math Trail (designed by Latulippe), and finally develop their own photograph and question to address mathematics outside of the classroom. Latulippe also has an interest in mathematics history and taught Norwich’s first History of Mathematics course in fall 2016, using the University Archives and some of Alonzo Jackman’s papers as resources for classroom activities.
