Edwin Schmeckpeper, Ph.D., P.E., is a licensed professional engineer and a professor of civil engineering and construction management.

His research interests involve engineering education, affordable housing, construction issues, structural engineering, and resilient infrastructure. He is working on an engineering education project funded by the National Science Foundation and has served as a consultant to the Energy Department-funded Solar Roads project. He was the principal investigator on several affordable housing projects, including the 2015-2016 Microhouse, and the Americans with Disabilities Act-accessible WheelPad microhouse.

He received degrees from Valparaiso University and the University of New Hampshire. After working as a professional engineer in design offices and construction sites, he began his academic career at the University of Idaho. In 2009, Professor Schmeckpeper came to Norwich University, where he serves as the chairman of the civil and environmental engineering and construction management departments. He led the successful ABET accreditation effort for the Construction Management program

Professor Schmeckpeper received the University of Bridgeport, School of Engineering Award for the best written and presented paper at the 2014 ASEE NE conference, “Creating an Economical Solar Decathlon House.” This award was based on “overall excellence and intellectual merit with preference given to research endeavors with the greatest positive impact on engineering practices and approaches towards solving pertinent societal problems.”
