Norwich Testimonial

On August 22, 2010, I arrived at NU not knowing (or wanting to know) what to expect. I was accomplished in high school, but timid and very reserved. Needless to say, Rookdom was challenging for me and pushed me in ways I did not expect. Yet, I never asked to come home. I stuck it out and then struck out of my own comfort zone. During my time here, I embraced not only the Corps of Cadets, but other leadership opportunities NU afforded me as well. By the time I walked across that stage on May 10, 2014 I had served as a member of the Regimental staff, as upperclassmen first sergeant, the editor-in-chief of The Guidon, and as an intern/employee for various companies (including NU). My accomplishments aside, I found my voice at Norwich and am not only a better leader, but a better person for it.

I began playing cello when I was in 6th grade. When I got the lead chair in 7th grade, my father bought me a beautiful Romanian cello. I nicknamed it Bishop (after my first orchestra teacher). I still play my cello for an hour each day at home.

Norwich Testimonial

When I was looking for colleges, I was searching for an institution that would not only educate me with an academic degree but also for a school that would allow me to grow as an individual and gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of leadership. Norwich did just that. There is no doubt that Rookdom was tough but, looking back on my four years at Norwich in the Corps of Cadets, it certainly was the best experience of my life. Like many others, I challenged myself to take on leadership roles and, while I chose not to commission into the military, the lessons learned in the Corps of Cadets have helped me to become a better manager and leader in the civilian world.

“If it wasn’t for the mist we could see your home across the bay,’ said Gatsby. ‘You always have a green light that burns all night at the end of your dock.’Daisy put her arm through his abruptly but he seemed absorbed in what he had just said. Possibly it occurred to him that the colossal significance of that light had vanished forever. Compared to the great distance that had separated him from Daisy it had seemed very near to her, almost touching her. It had seemed as close as a star to the moon. Now it was again a green light on a dock. His count of enchanted objects had diminished by one.”
