Adjunct Faculty - Database Faculty


Seeking experienced database experts who might be willing to teach the IS240 Database course starting in mid-January 2013. Normally our instructors have at least a Master's degree in an appropriate subject area and experience in industry and in teaching.

IS240 is a core requirement for all Computer Science and Computer Security majors in our School. The course description is as follows: "A study of the concepts and structures necessary to design and implement a database management system. Various data models will be examined and related to specific examples of database management systems. Techniques of system design, system implementation, data integrity, and file security will be examined. Prerequisite: IS228 (Data Structures)."

The objectives of IS240 are as follows:
• Learn to use the technical language of database management systems (DBMS) correctly;
• Describe and apply data modeling using the entity-relationship model to practical information processing problems;
• .Apply the relational model and normalization to data to establish sound database designs using MS-Access, or MySQL as the student chooses;
• Learn to use SQL using the MS-Access or MySQL database programs as the student chooses;
• .Deal effectively with problems of concurrent access on multiuser databases.

Teaching materials (PPT lecture files, exam questions, etc.) will be made available. The course meets from 08:00 to 09:15 (section A) and 10:50-12:05 (section B) every Tuesday and Thursday, beginning Tuesday 15 January through Thursday, 9 May 2013.
