Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid
Norwich University, a private, residential senior military college, offers undergraduate degrees through four colleges, to 2,300 cadets and traditional students. Founded in 1819 by Captain Alden Partridge, Norwich University was the first private military college in the United States and the birthplace of the nation’s Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program. With a mission grounded in service and leadership, providing over 30 academic programs and four ROTC programs, the University’s academic and co-curricular programs focus on preparing students to be the leaders of tomorrow. Located in Northfield, Vermont, part of the Green Mountains and one of the nation’s most spectacular natural areas, the University has access to a vast array of year-round outdoor recreational opportunities.
Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, the Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid will be an experienced, organized, and creative enrollment professional who will develop a comprehensive vision for the identification, recruitment, and retention of the corps of cadets and traditional undergraduate students that is grounded in best practices and the strategic use of data. S/he will provide leadership for undergraduate admissions and financial aid, oversee annual financial aid expenditures in excess of $100 million, as well as provide important contributions to strategic planning for retention, international student recruitment, and recruitment marketing and communications. The Dean will lead a staff of 30 professionals across the admissions and financial aid offices in the recruitment and enrollment of a talented, diverse class of undergraduates who possess a commitment to service. The successful candidate will have expert knowledge of the current higher education enrollment landscape and will have proven expertise in enrollment operations and possess a demonstrable record of meeting and exceeding enrollment goals. The Dean will display superior analytical skills and an interpersonal style that is collaborative and collegial.
A bachelor’s degree is required (master’s degree preferred), along with five or more years of demonstrated progressive management experience in admissions, financial aid, and/or marketing in higher education. Demonstrated successful experience in developing, evaluating, and improving recruitment, enrollment and marketing strategies from a data-driven perspective including the use of social media and information technology to improve the recruitment and enrollment of students; an understanding of enrollment operations and the use of technology in recruitment; and proven success in creating, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive enrollment plan are expected. Experience in financial aid to develop enrollment leveraging and retention strategies is important. A proven commitment to diversity is expected and an understanding of the University’s national service commitment and military focus and history is important.
