Over the last week, two incidents (one in Plainfield and one in Montreal) involving members of the Vermont National Guard who were verbally and physically harassed by civilians has sparked several discussions among members of the Commandant's staff and administration about ensuring the safety of our students when they travel off campus. I strongly recommend members of the Corps of Cadets and faculty to be watchful when traveling off campus in areas known for anti-war demonstrations. Be proud but also be safe. Should any situations arise that cause anyone to feel uncomfortable or at risk, they should contact local law enforcement authorities immediately. Do not take matters into your own hands.
