Committee members should be knowledgeable in one or more of the following:
- landscaping and forestry
- fine arts
- architecture
- engineering and construction
- Norwich history
The Chief Administrative Officer shall serve as chairperson.
Position/Function
The Architecture, Landscape, Memorial, and Decoration Advisory Committee is to evaluate future changes in land use, landscaping, decoration, memorials, architectural modifications, or additions on any University property. It should try to preserve the unique identity and character of each campus and evaluate options within the context of the Master Plan for University physical facilities. It should provide assistance to any groups or individual who wishes to establish a memorial at Norwich University and maintain on file in the Library a detailed listing of memorials and all available information incident to the development of each.
In order for this committee to be effective it must be contacted well in advance of expected changes. Responsibility for informing the committee of impending actions lies with the representatives of Facilities Operations, the office initiating the project, and the President's Office. Examples of areas where notification of proposed changes are needed:
- Land Use: natural areas, including logging operations, residential areas, academic areas, parking or roadway areas, or areas designed for athletic use.
- Landscaping: planting of trees or shrubs, major pruning or removal of existing trees, shrubs or vines.
- Memorial and Decoration: decoration changes for public places, new plaques, memorials, signs, or other decorative devices to be displayed on any University property.
- Architectural Modifications: replacement of windows or doors, changes to the exteriors (including painting, alterations of windows, or placement of utility pipes or cables, changes in outside lighting), or modification to interiors (such as changes in wall location).
Reporting
This committee reports to the Chief Administrative Officer.
