What is Student Senate?

The Norwich University Student Senate is a group of students representing the entire undergraduate student body and is responsible for voicing concerns of the student body to the administration. The main goal of Student Senate is to promote the general welfare of all students and to foster positive improvements on campus.

Who can be a part of Student Senate?

Any full-time student is welcomed to join Student Senate. The Student Senate is currently comprised of traditional residential students, cadets, and commuter students. All students are always welcome to attend the meetings at noon on Tuesdays in Upper Harmon Hall, Room 205.

What issues concern the Student Senate?

The Norwich University Student Senate works on any issue that affects the entire student body. As outlined in the Constitution, the Student Senate has various standing committees established to work with many of these issues. Select committees can be formed if an issue arises that doesn’t fall under any of the standing committees. Some examples of issues the Student Senate deals with include:

  • Facilities:
    • Lighting on campus
    • Winter plowing and shoveling conditions
    • Cigarette butt disposal around campus
    • Paper recycling containers in dorms/barracks
  • Food Service:
    • Fresh breakfast during all the designated hours
    • Variety of meal plan options
    • Extended weekend hours for the Dining Hall
  • Security and Parking:
    • Issuing of parking tickets
    • Parking limitations for the different groups parking on campus (residential students, commuters, faculty, staff, etc.)
  • Technology and Utility
    • Cable in dorms/barracks
    • Voicemail system for students
    • Upgrade of campus technological security (i.e., swipe cards for dorms and Plumley)
  • Academics:
    • Academic building closing times on weeknights and weekends
    • Career Development Center resources
  • Other areas of concern:
    • Rules and regulations
    • Housing
    • Student activities and athletics
    • Administrative concerns
