Leadership Opportunities

Powerful opportunities to develop leadership and character are the norm at Norwich, whether you are a civilian student or member of the Corps of Cadets. This is the place where young men and women prepare to become influential citizens and soldiers who change the world.

As a member of the Corps, you will have opportunities to lead groups of cadets ranging in size from 10 to 1,400. You might become cadre your junior year and train the incoming Rook class. As a senior-year cadet officer, you might command a platoon, company, battalion or the entire regiment. All cadets participate in at least six semesters of ROTC, which offers additional leadership training.

Our civilian students have opportunities for leadership development through Residential Life, student staff positions, residence hall governance positions, the Civilian Honor Council, sophomore mentorships, orientation leader positions and more.

All students, Corps and civilian, learn leadership skills through community service, clubs and organizations, student life and athletics. You might organize a fund drive, co-chair an event, serve as captain of an athletic team or greet visitors as an ambassador for Norwich.

You'll find opportunities through more than 80 clubs and organizations, community service, 20 varsity sports, intramurals and student-life activities. Norwich students are highly regarded for the amount of time they devote to community-service projects, near and far.

Here are just a few examples of ways you can learn to lead:

Student Government Association (SGA)

The Student Government Association (SGA) at Norwich University is run by our students for our students. Elected student leadership works to improve campus life and acts as a liaison for students to faculty, administration and alumni. SGA leaders also review student club applications and provide official recognition. Email nusga@norwich.edu to get involved.

Youth Mentoring Programs (Buddy Up)

These group-based mentoring and tutoring programs for Northfield and Roxbury youth are developed and implemented by student mentors.

NU VISIONS Abroad

Norwich University's international service-learning program featuring partnerships with Tanzania, Thailand, Nicaragua, etc. NU VISIONS organizes several overseas trips each year.

Alternative break programs

Week-long, volunteer group trips scheduled within and outside of Vermont during Thanksgiving and Spring breaks.

Campus Activities Board (CAB)

CAB leader responsibilities include programming and publicizing a wide variety of campus events. CAB leaders are also involved in planning and executing major University events, including the Regimental Ball, Family Weekend, Winter Carnival, and Junior Ring Weekend. For more information about the CAB and student activities at Norwich University, email cab@norwich.edu.
