Corps organization is similar to that of an Army Regiment and consists of three or four “line” battalions and a “provisional” battalion. Within each battalion there are three or four companies. If you are unfamiliar with military terminology just think of it like this: The Corps is organized like a corporation (regiment) consisting of three general divisions (line battalions) and a support division (provisional battalion). Within each division there are three departments (companies).
Cadet officers (lieutenants, captains, majors and colonels) are the equivalent of corporate officers, business executives, or chief administrators within a corporation. Noncommissioned officers (corporals, sergeants, staff sergeants, and other sergeants) are equivalent to first line supervisors, personnel or operation managers, and team leaders.
Cadet officers and noncommissioned officers command the Corps of Cadets. As leaders, they are responsible for the day-to-day administration, operation, training and discipline of the Corps. Norwich is one of several Senior Military Colleges in the country whose cadets are entrusted with that authority.
