Depending on who you ask, leadership has many definitions. A common definition used in the military is: “Leadership is the ability to influence people to accomplish a mission or common goal by providing purpose, direction and motivation.” Leaders are visionaries who lead by example and are willing to step out from a crowd.
The Corps of Cadets
Within the Corps of Cadets, you have the opportunity to lead others. First you must learn to follow. Then you teach others what you have learned. As a member of the Corps, you will take classes in leadership and, in essence, The Corps is the laboratory in which you are able to practice what you learned in the classroom.
Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC)
All Cadets, whether or not they plan to seek a commission in the military, are required to participate in six semesters of ROTC. Norwich has all four branches of ROTC: Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines Corps. Each of the ROTC detachments teach leadership theory as it applies to their respective service and provide Cadets with additional practical leadership opportunities within the ROTC units.
