Commander Hagenlocher, of Castleton, Vt., graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science degree in History. Following initial training at Surface Warfare Officers School in San Diego, California, Commander Hagenlocher reported to USS MARVIN SHIELDS (FF 1066) in January 1989 where he served as Boilers Officer and the Combat Information Center Officer. During his tour the ship completed a deployment as a part of BATTLE FORCE DELTA to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operation EARNEST WILL, participated in RIMPAC and a second deployment to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operations DESERT SHIELD and DESERT STORM. He served as the liaison officer to the Kuwaiti Navy throughout Operation DESERT SHIELD in preparation for their employment as Combat Search and Rescue platforms during DESERT STORM.

In June 1992, after completing AEGIS training, he reported onboard USS ARLEIGH BURKE (DDG 51) as the Strike Officer and then Combat Information Center/Assistant Operations Officer. During his tour the ship conducted her maiden deployment with the THEODORE ROOSEVELT Strike Group to the Mediterranean and Red Seas in support of Operation SHARP GUARD.

Following his initial sea tours, Commander Hagenlocher reported to the Pentagon where he served on the Navy Staff as the Navy Counter Drug Action Officer (N313) from December 1993 to December 1995.

After graduating from Department Head School, with distinction, he reported onboard USS LAKE CHAMPLAIN (CG 57) in San Diego in November 1996. Serving as both the Weapons Control Officer and Combat Systems Officer he led the Combat Systems Training team through two complete workup cycles and a deployment to the Arabian Gulf with the NIMITZ Carrier Strike Group in support of Operation SOUTHERN WATCH. USS LAKE CHAMPLAIN was awarded the Spokane Trophy in 1999 for being the most proficient ship in overall combat systems readiness and warfare operations.

In September 1999 Commander Hagenlocher reported to Cruiser Destroyer Group ONE, embarked onboard USS CONSTELLATION (CV 64) as the Tomahawk Strike Officer. Following an initial cruise to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operation SOUTHERN WATCH, he was selected as the Flag Secretary. During the ensuing deployment in support of Operation SOUTHERN WATCH he served as a Battle Watch Captain.

From August 2001 to July 2002, Commander Hagenlocher attended the Naval War College where he received his Masters of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies. He then reported as Auxiliaries Officer onboard USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN 75). The TRUMAN Strike Group deployed to the Mediterranean Sea in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM conducting combat operations in support of the Northern Front. Following this tour, he reported to the Joint Forces Staff College where he completed his second phase of Joint Professional Military Education.

In April 2004, Commander Hagenlocher was assigned to Fleet ASW Command Detachment Norfolk as head of the East Coast ASW Training Team. As a plankowner, he established the East Coast Detachment and assisted in the development of the Navy’s ASW strategy, Full Spectrum ASW.

Commander Hagenlocher’s personal awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit and defense commendations.
