Scholarship and Contracting

ROTC Cadets are able to contract with the Army starting first semester of their sophomore year. By contracting, cadets receive a monthly stipend and a uniform commutation.

  2. Subsistence Payment (all contracted cadets)

  3. Book Money (scholarship cadets only)
    • $450 per semester (maximum of $900 per year)
        Nursing Students receive all $900 first semester
  4. Uniform Commutation

    MSIs and MSIIs must be enrolled in Army ROTC and in class 45 days before payment All MSIII and MSIV cadets must be contracted and on Direct Deposit to receive payments

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • GPA: 2.5 (2.0 for contracting without a scholarship)
  • Medical: DoDMERB qualified (physical, hearing test, eye test)
  • APFT: 180 (with 60 in each event) Must meet Army height/weight standards
  • SAT Score: 920 (Written portion under new format not part of score)
  • ACT Score: 19

Commitment

Contracting without a scholarship incurs a commitment of three years of active duty and four years in the Inactive Ready Reserve (IRR), while the commitment with a scholarship is four years active duty and four years in the IRR, regardless of the time span the scholarship covers.

Army National Guard

The Army National Guard is an excellent opportunity to gain financial assistance and leadership experience while obtaining your college degree.

Scholarships

Get your tuition completely paid for by the National Guard while ensuring the Branch of your choice in any state you desire.

Deployments

You are not deployable until you have completed Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training. You remain Non-deployable for two years once you’ve completed AIT under the College First program. As an SMP you are also in a Non-deployable status. You may however volunteer for a deployment if you so desire.

Be an officer who has had the enlisted experience

Attend Army Basic Training and Advanced Individual training during the summer months. Get the latest training on Infantry tactics or many other Military Occupational Skills. Completion of AIT makes you eligible for up to $20,000 in bonuses, the Montgomery GI Bill ($309 monthly while a full-time student) and the GI Bill Kicker ($350 monthly while a full-time student).

National Guard SMP

Simultaneous Membership Program and potential SMP’s are contracted cadets or cadets who will contract within one year. You’ll serve in a Guard unit under a branch of your choosing as an officer trainee. You’ll perform duties similar to that of a Second Lieutenant. You’re paid as a Sergeant (E-5) and get a full uniform basic issue. You are also eligible for the Federal Tuition Assistance program.

Federal Tuition Assistance

A program you are eligible for the day you enlist. The Fed TA gives you access to $4500.00 per fiscal year for school tuition.

Army Reserve

As a soldier in the Army Reserve, you’ll have the time and freedom to put your experience and educational benefits to good use. The opportunity to gain valuable experience as an enlisted soldier will prepare you to lead your soldiers as an officer. While in college, the Army Reserve will help pay for it: The following programs are available to all qualified applicants.

Selected Reserve Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB)

As a soldier in the Army Reserve, you can take advantage of the Montgomery GI Bill as a way to pay for a college education. Get up to $309 per month for 36 months for full-time students and up to $12,600 on top of your MGIB for college.

Army Reserve MGIB “Kicker”:

You can add up to $350 per month to your MGIB.

ROTC Scholarships

Take advantage of the best leadership course in America—Army ROTC Military Science and Leadership. Army ROTC Cadets gain practical experience in management and problem solving while training to become Army Officers. Get up to $17,000 per year for college.

College Loan Repayment Program

Pay off your student loans more easily with the Army’s College Loan Repayment Program. To take advantage of this program you must enlist in the Army Reserve for six years, but can receive up to $20,000 for selected specialties to repay college loans.

Tuition Assistance

While you're in the Army Reserve, we’ll help you pay for the classes you take. Tuition assistance covers 100 percent of course costs up to $250 per credit hour, up to $4,500 per academic year.

Concurrent Admissions Program (ConAP)

The Army Reserve wants you to take advantage of your educational benefits. In the Concurrent Admissions Program (ConAP), we partner with more than 1,800 colleges and universities to make it easy for you to transfer college and start earning credit.

Army Reserve Education Career Stabilization (ECS)

The Education Career Stabilization (ECS) enlistment option provides non-prior service applicants the opportunity to serve in the Army Reserve and complete up to four years of post-secondary education. Qualified applicants who enlist for this option will be stabilized for up to 48 months upon accessing into the AR and completing Initial Entry Training (IET). The stabilization period exempts soldiers from current mobilization authority (Operation Iraqi Freedom-OIF/Operation Enduring Freedom-OEF).
