Course Descriptions

Military Science I

The curriculum introduces Cadets to the first level of individual Army training, the Army standards of physical fitness, leadership development, and the Army Values. Laboratory work includes hands on training of the M16 Rifle, Land Navigation, and Field Survival Training. Army ROTC Seniors coach, teach, and mentor Cadets on Army standards, self-improvement, and instill confidence to make decisions. The course provides a foundation of the Infantry Squad that Cadets build upon during their next military science years.

Military Science II

This course is designed to teach individual soldier skills required for survival in modern combat and the leadership roles required for the infantry team and squad leader in developing technically and tactically proficient soldiers. Cadets will receive hands-on training in intelligence gathering, radio communication, individual and crew served weapons. Cadets will be introduced to collective tasks such as tactical movements and formations needed to conduct squad offensive, defensive, and patrolling missions. Decision-making skills, problem solving skills and troop leading procedures continue to be honed through leadership roles. Laboratory work focuses small unit tactics, advanced land navigation, physical fitness, and troop leading procedures.

Military Science III

Cadets will continue to develop their oral and written communication skills through preparation of warning, fragmentary, and operation orders; their individual Soldier skills to include lad navigation and terrain analysis; and their leadership and management skills through tactical squad missions and the conduct of physical training. Cadets will learn leadership techniques by gaining a comprehensive understanding of the mission and organization of combat and reconnaissance patrols and the methods utilized by effective combat leaders. Leadership scenarios will explore more situational and dynamic leadership requirements in addition to tactical requirements.

Military Science IV

This course begins the transition from Cadet to US Army 2nd Lieutenant. Training will include Army Operations, training management, communications and leadership skills. Additionally, cadets will participate in selected studies of Military History to include a staff ride to a Revolutionary War battlefield. This training will enable you to attain knowledge and proficiency in several critical areas needed to operate effectively and efficiently as an Army Officer. These areas include: The Army’s training management system, coordinating activities with staffs, and counseling skills. Instruction will include lecture/seminar, case studies, practical exercises and military laboratories to include field-training exercises. Various members of the Army Department Cadre will serve as Assistant Instructors. Students will learn how to assess the level of training in their organizations, develop a training plan to correct deficiencies and re-enforce strengths, and how to evaluate training results.
