As cadets progress through their sophomore, junior and senior years at Norwich, they can pursue many different paths. They can choose from several different leadership positions, with opportunities to lead as few as four students or as many as 1,100. Sophomores may choose to become Cadre, taking on the responsibility of training incoming Rooks. Upperclassmen can pursue leadership of a squad, a platoon, or the command of a company, battalion, or the entire regiment.

Other cadets will choose to serve in positions of responsibility within The Corps, as managers, supervisors and support personnel and hold key positions in operations, training, logistics, retention, public affairs and administration. These support functions are vital to the daily operation and training of The Corps.

The following year’s leadership is selected at the end of each year based on academic achievement, leadership potential, physical fitness and dedication to the traditions of The Corps. To earn the right to lead others, cadets must apply for the position they seek to hold and appear before a Commandant’s Promotion Board.
