Women's Lacrosse: Bridgewater State 21 Norwich 3
Bridgewater, MA - The Cadets opened their inaugural season of varsity play with a 21-3 loss to the Bears. With the win, Bridgewater State goes to 2-2.
Nine different players scored for Bridgewater State led by Alicia Spolidoro and Katie DeMaio. Spolidoro tallied a career high eight points, notching four goals and four assists. DeMaio, playing in just her fourth collegiate game, set career highs in goals, assists and points as she finished with four goals and three assists.
Leading 4-2 seven minutes into the game, the Bears scored the next eight goals to put the game out of reach with DeMaio netting three consecutive goals. BSC took a 14-3 lead into halftime and did not give up a second half goal. Bridgewater outshot the Cadets, 38-15, and also held a 20-9 advantage in draw controls.
Ashley Haviland scored two goals for the Cadets,
while Allison Daniels accounted for the other.
Both goals were unassisted.
BSC goaltenders Jessica Cercone and Chelsea
Bracchi split time in goal for the BSC as Cercone registered
1 saves and Bracchi turned aside 4 shots. Norwich goalkeeper Dawn
McNulty made 11 saves in her first collegiate game.
"Our game this evening was frustrating only because we did
not have our first or second string goalie available, as one is
injured and the other had an academic obligation, therefore we had
to put a field player in net that has never played there before,"
said NU Head Coach Tyler Renaud. "Secondly,
it was our first time outside versus their fourth, so the cards
were certainly stacked against us."
Norwich (0-1) will be back in action on Sunday at Thomas College
at 1:00 p.m. Bridgewater State (2-2) will be back in action on Thursday
against Salve Regina University at 4:00 p.m.
