Softball: WNEC Sweeps Norwich University


Springfield, MA - The Golden Bears blasted seven homers in a sweep over the Cadets. WNEC claimed game one by an 11-9 final in eight innings, followed by a 14-11 victory in game two.

In the opener, the Cadets made four errors that led to eight unearned runs but they still managed to take a 9-5 lead in the fifth off Jazmin Stevens' two-run double. WNEC's Allison Glassick smacked a three-run homer with two outs in the seventh to tie the game. Jes Nelson then belted the winning runs in the top of the eighth. NU's Codi Collins had a big game going 3-for-3 with three runs.

Game two was a hit fest as WNEC's Steph Ganser, Meredith Pacelli, and Nelson hit back-to-back-back homers in the fifth. Stevens smacked a three-run shot in the fourth for Norwich followed by a solo shot by Allison Weber. Stevens added a two-run single to finish 2-for-5, while Justine Caron went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

There were 45 runs, 50 hits, and nine homers in the two games.

Norwich goes to 11-5 overall and 6-2 in the GNAC after suffering its first two conference losses, while WNEC is now 10-8 overall and 4-2 in the league. The Cadets will meet Albertus Magnus in a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
