Softball: Pine Manor Sweeps Norwich


Chestnut Hill, MA - The Gators scored nine runs against the Cadets in both games of a GNAC doubleheader to earn the victories. 9-0 was the final in five innings in game one, while 9-5 was the final in game two.

In the opener, Pine Manor broke open a 3-0 game with six runs in the fourth inning. Veronica Vozzolo, Martha Vargas, and Angelica Camacho each scored two runs in the win. Winning Pitcher Nicole Vocaturo gave up only one hit and delivered eight strikeouts. Norwich hurler Emily Bean took the loss, giving up nine runs on nine hits.

Game two remained scoreless until the fifth inning when the Cadets scored four runs. The Gators posted three runs in the bottom of the fifth, and then tacked on six runs in the bottom of the sixth. Norwich could only add one more run in the top of the seventh. NU's Whitney Grennon went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs, while Jazmin Stevens went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and one run. PMC's Courtney Wallace went 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs and one run. Siobhan Raymond picked up the win for the Gators, while Justine Caron took the loss for the Cadets.

With the losses, Norwich evens its overall record at 14-14, and goes to 9-11 in GNAC games. The Cadets will close out the regular season on Tuesday with a road venture to Johnson & Wales for a 3:00 pm doubleheader.
