Men's Lacrosse: Wheaton College 14 Norwich 4
Norton, MA - Trey Helms poured in a career-high
five goals as Wheaton College remained tied atop the Pilgrim League
standings with a 14-4 victory over Norwich University on Saturday
in Mirrione Stadium. The Lyons are now 2-6 overall and 2-0 in the
conference, while the Cadets fell to 1-4 and 0-3. Wheaton is 19-2
in its last 21 home games when scoring 10 goals.
The Lyons built an 8-0 halftime lead and had a 10-0 advantage before
the visitors broke on the board with 10:50 left in the third period.
Sam Glanders put the Cadets on the board at 10:06,
while Cody Hardenburgh and Colin Smith
tacked on the next two to bring Norwich to within 10-3 at 1:49.
Wheaton's Trey Helms scored the first two goals
of the fourth before Richie Rasamny tallied with
4:02 left to put Wheaton back up by 10. Hardenburgh and Drew
Schaffer exchanged the final two goals of the contest.
Alex Lewis made seven saves between the pipes
for the Lyons in his collegiate debut, while NU goalie Joe
Phelan turned aside 20 Wheaton shots.
Norwich is scheduled to be back in action on Wednesday with a home
game against Springfield at 4 pm. The Lyons continue Pilgrim play
by visiting Babson College on Wednesday at 4 pm.
