Men's Hockey: Hockey Writers Honor Cleaver

Northfield, VT - Norwich Men's Ice Hockey forward Rick Cleaver (Parksville, BC) has received Player of the Year honors by the New England Hockey Writers Association, which has released its ECAC East/NESCAC All-Star Team. Eight different teams are represented on the 13-man squad.

Cleaver led the Cadets with 24 goals and 44 points. The junior forward also logged four game-winning goals, four power-play goals, and a pair of short-handed goals. Norwich finished the 2006-07 season with an overall mark of 20-8-0 and a first-round appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Cleaver was also placed on the ACHA All-America 1st Team and was named as the ECAC East Player of the Year.

Other forwards on the All-Star team are Babson's Brad Baldelli, Wesleyan's Will Bennett, Southern Maine's Mark Carragher, Middlebury's Mickey Gilchrist, and Colby's Greg Osborne.

The defensemen are comprised of Colby's Arthur Fritch, Trinity's John Halverson, Middlebury's Tom Maldonado, Southern Maine's Dane Marshall, and Castleton State's Travis Martell.

Two goaltenders were named to the ECAC East/NESCAC All-Star Team, David Beckles of Southern Maine and Mike Palladino of Wesleyan.

Babson's Jamie Rice was tabbed as the Coach of the Year after leading the Beavers to the ECAC East post-season title and to the NCAA Tournament.
