Baseball: Suffolk Rams Sweep Norwich Cadets
Quincy, MA - Suffolk's baseball team moved into the top spot in
the Great Northeast Athletic Conference race with a doubleheader
win over Norwich at Adams Field.
The Rams won the first game 13-6, taking an 11-0 lead after two
innings. Suffolk scored six runs in the first inning on five walks.
Junior outfielder Greg DiMarco drove in two runs
with a single in the inning.
In the second inning, Suffolk added five more runs as junior catcher
Nick Martinho tripled, senior designated hitter
Marc Exarhopoulos singled and DiMarco doubled to
highlight the inning. Suffolk starting pitcher Joe Roberto
went the distance for win.
Norwich starter Chris Pybus suffered the loss.
The Cadets scored three unearned runs in the sixth inning and added
three more in the seventh. Outfielder Rob Knox
doubled to drive in two runs in the seventh. Catcher Aaron
Ward went three for four at the plate and scored two runs.
Designated hitter Donovan Brown was two for three
with one run scored.
Suffolk took game two, 9-0, with sophomore Jake Bruce pitching six
shutout innings and freshman Tom Kelly coming in
in relief in the seventh. The Rams got going in the second inning
when they scored four runs, followed by a pair of runs in the fourth
and three in the fifth. Norwich hurler Timothy O'Connor
took the loss.
The Rams move to 8-2 in GNAC games, 16-8 overall. Norwich drops
to 2-6 in GNAC games, 3-13 overall.
