Baseball: Purple Knights Sweep Cadets

Colchester, VT - Saint Michael’s College swept a doubleheader against Norwich University, winning game one 6-3 and game two by the score of 11-3, on Monday afternoon at the Doc Jacobs Sports Complex. The Purple Knights needed a rally in game one and came through with five runs in the bottom of the sixth to get the win. In the nightcap, Saint Michael’s scored all 11 runs in the first three innings for the victory.

For the Cadets (2-12), Kyle Przekaza was 1-for-2 with an RBI and run scored in game one, while Jordan Kittredge went 1-for-2, earning an RBI and a run scored in game two. Donovan Brown added two hits and Chris Pybus recorded two hits, along with four innings of relief in game two, giving up two runs on three hits and striking out five. Alex Duplessis got the start in the first game and threw five innings allowing three earned runs, two hits and fanning five batters. Kyle Kenia started game two and went two innings, giving eight earned runs.

For the Purple Knights (5-13), junior Ed Fennessey collected four hits, three runs scored and an RBI in the two games, while senior Jack Owens added two hits, two runs scored and three RBI. Junior Rory Kelleher was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI, including a three-run homer that broke open the first game. Junior Alex McIntire posted his first win, throwing six innings, allowing an earned run on two hits and seven strike outs. Freshman Phil Jennette got the start in game two and pitched 4.1 innings giving up only two runs on three hits and striking out three, to earn his first victory as well.

In the first game, Duplessis shut down the Purple Knights until the sixth inning, where Saint Michael’s exploded for five runs, highlighted by a three-run homer by Kelleher. Norwich scored single runs in the third, fourth and seventh innings.

In the nightcap, the Purple Knights continued where they left off in game one, grinding out all 11 runs on 10 hits in the first three innings. Fennessey was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Jack Owens was 2-for-3 as well, recording a runs scored and three RBI. Juniors Greg McLaughlin and Kyle Gingras help the cause, collecting two RBI.
