Baseball: Hornets Sting Cadets Twice

Lyndonville, VT - Lyndon State swept Norwich in a doubleheader, taking the first game, 14-7, followed by a 7-5 victory in game two.

In the opener, the Cadets led 7-6 after five innings only to see the Hornets score eight runs in the sixth for the 14-7 final. Jesse Hersey and Jordan Royer each made three hits for LSC, while Rob Malloy, Adrian Guyer, and Josh Wells recorded two hits apiece. NU batters Jordan Kittredge and Domenic Sorrentino each logged a pair of hits.

Hersey pitched a complete game to earn the win for the Hornets, while Alex Duplessis took the loss for the Cadets.

In game two, Lyndon State led 7-2 heading into the seventh inning when Norwich scored three runs to cut the deficit to two. The Cadets had the tying run at the plate, but a fly ball to right field pulled the plug on the comeback. LSC's Guyer had a solo homerun and a single, while Jake Ainsworth tallied two hits. NU's John Henry Schriefer had two hits as did Healy, who played his final game for the Cadets.

Lyndon hurler Adam Pelletier was the winning pitcher, while Royer earned the save. Norwich pitcher Timothy O'Connor took the loss.

With the wins, the Hornets go to 8-15 on the season, while the Cadets drop to 5-26. Norwich will close out the season on Friday with a road game at Vermont Tech at 3:00 pm.
