Baseball: Cadets and Falcons Split
New Haven, CT - Albertus Magnus won the first game of a doubleheader, 6-5, while Norwich claimed game two, 9-4.
In the opener, the Falcons were trailing 3-1 when they exploded for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead. NU's Aaron Ward and Rob Knox each scored late runs, but the Cadets couldn't get over the hump. AMC's Matt Rondinone went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. Ward, Donovan Brown, and Chris Pybus each logged two hits apiece for Norwich.
Albertus pitcher Craig Emmons picked up the win, while Jeff Kamaromi recorded the save. Norwich pitcher John Healy took the loss.
In the closer, Healy lit up the scoreboard with a three-run homerun in the first inning to give the Cadets the early advantage. NU added two unearned runs in the second inning courtesy of Pybus and Knox. Norwich went on to build an 8-1 lead and were never threatened. As in game one, Brown, Ward, and Pybus each totaled two hits.
Norwich hurler Jason Nickerson picked up the win after going five innings on the mound. Pitcher Mike Damiani took the loss for the Falcons.
Norwich is now 3-13 overall and 2-6 in the GNAC. The Cadets will return to action on Saturday, April 14, with a 12 noon doubleheader at Suffolk University.
