Norwich Athletics: Two Cadets Honored

Northfield, VT - A pair of Norwich University athletes have been recognized by their respective conferences.

Travis Tyler (Rowley, MA) has been named as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tennis Rookie of the Week. Tyler and teammate Chris Pashley defeated the Johnson & Wales doubles team of Joe Bayot and Joshua Fialkowski, 8-5, to remain undefeated this season. Tyler is the only NU player without a defeat, going 3-0 in doubles and 1-0 in singles.

"Travis Tyler has had a great beginning to his collegiate career," said NU Head Coach Kyle Dezotell. "His play has dramatically improved and he has adapted quickly to the collegiate game. We look for much more success from him over the next four years."

Ashley Haviland (Manchester Center, VT) was named to the New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) Honor Roll. Haviland scored one goal and tallied three assists in Norwich's 13-2 win at Thomas College. The win was the Cadets' first as a varsity program. Haviland also scored two goals in a game at Bridgewater State, bringing her season total to three and her point total to six, a team best.

"Ashley is deserving of being named to the NEWLA Weekly Honor Roll," said NU Head Coach Tyler Renaud. "She has done a nice job at attack for us, leading the team in scoring and maintaining possession in our offensive end of the field. Her field awareness and ability to pressure the ball after turnovers helped lead Norwich to its first official NCAA victory this past week against Thomas, a trend that I hope continues deep into the season."

The Norwich Tennis team will return to action on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. match at Emerson. The Norwich Women's Lacrosse team will next play on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at Worcester State.
