Question of the Month:

Last month, we asked alumni to search their memory banks for significant world events that occurred during their years at Norwich, and to tell us how they and their classmates were affected. This month, in honor of Superbowl XL, we invite you to write and tell us what major sports or sports-related events you remember from your undergraduate years. For instance, can you recall where you were and what you were doing when you learned that Magic Johnson had HIV? Or that the U.S. Olympic team had beaten the Russians? When you respond, please also explain why the event held meaning for you.

Email your stories to pubrel@norwich.edu, and include your name and class year. All submissions will be considered for publication.

Our January question of the month, "Thinking back on your time at Norwich, what world events do you remember most vividly, and how did they affect you and your classmates?" prompted the most responses ever. Thank you to the alumni from the classes of 1950-2003 who wrote to us about historical events dating from the Korean War through 9/11. We are pleased to publish them [here].

Of Special Interest to Alumni

Alumni input needed for bike ride survey
Norwich University has announced the establishment of an Annual Scholarship Bike Ride. Designed to be a fun event, the ride reinforces Norwich's 5th Guiding Value that states, "We stress being physically fit and drug free," while providing scholarship support for future students. The ride will take most of the day and includes a BBQ/social at its conclusion.

The event will be corporately sponsored, which means that 100% of every dollar raised by participants will go to the scholarship fund. Riders will be asked to either raise their entry fee or make a gift to Norwich University.

In order to determine the best date and length for the ride, we need your input. If this is an event that might possibly interest you, please spend a few minutes filling out the online survey. The survey also offers you the opportunity to request registration information.

Thank you for your help!

The Norwich University Cemetery
There are many for whom "The Hill" is a home away from home, so it is not surprising that some choose Norwich as a final resting place. Known locally as "Dole Farm," the Norwich University Cemetery overlooks the campus and provides a beautiful setting in which to memorialize Norwich graduates, friends of the University, Trustees, Fellows, and other members of the Norwich community.

For more information or to secure a plot, please contact Priscilla Gilbert, Norwich University Cemetery Assn., 158 Harmon Drive, Northfield, VT 05663, 802.485.2742, or pgilbert@Norwich.edu.

The Ernest Harmon Memorial Wall
Inscribed on the wall are the names of alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of Norwich University who have made a significant contribution to the improvement of the institution. The list of names, recorded by year of death, commemorates a commitment to Norwich that has sustained the University in the past and will carry it proudly into the future.

For more information about the Harmon Memorial Wall, please contact Priscilla Gilbert, Planned Giving Officer, 158 Harmon Drive, Northfield, Vermont 05663, 802.485.2301, pgilbert@norwich.edu.
