Norwich
alumnus killed in helicopter crash
Colonel
James M. Moore, USA, '80, died on the morning of Nov. 29 in a helicopter
accident near Fort Hood, Texas, where he had been stationed since
July 2002. Colonel Moore was killed when the UH-60 Black Hawk he
was riding in crashed and burned in the fog after hitting a web
of support wires on a TV transmission tower. Six other Army personnel
also perished in the accident. He leaves his wife, Amy, a daughter,
and a son. Cards and letters of condolence may be sent to the family

Vermont
National Guard deploys 600 in emotional sendoff
On
the morning of November 19, 2004, sixteen Norwich students joined
six hundred fellow guardsmen and women in an emotional send-off
at Norwich University, commencing the largest VNG deployment in

Norwich
University receives service-learning grant
The
Vermont Campus Compact (VCC) has awarded a $4,000 grant to Norwich
University to support the growth and institutionalization of the
school's Service-Learning program. [more]
Veterans'
Day Observance
Brigadier
General Eugene Sevi, ANG, (Ret.), Norwich Professor of Civil and
Environmental Engineering, served as the reviewing officer and honored
guest speaker at Norwich's Annual Veterans' Day Observance. The
occasion was marked with much ceremony, including the Roll of Wars,
Echo Taps, and a wreath-laying. [more]

students to present paper at mathematics conference
As
part of their coursework for Senior Seminar MA411, senior mathematics
majors Charity Combs and Timothy Phelps presented a paper at the
fall conference of the Northeastern Section of the Mathematics Association

University Drill Team shocks nation
The
Norwich University Drill Team (aka Shock Platoon) took home first
place honors in the Cornell University Invitational Drill Competition
at Ithaca, New York. [More]
Chase
gift to help fund academic initiatives to benefit students, faculty
President
Richard Schneider has approved a recommendation to use $300,000
annually to fund several academic initiatives at Norwich. Programs
that will benefit include international travel and study abroad,
undergraduate research and scholar-in-residence. [More]

students nominated for Rhodes Scholarships
Javonne
Gray, a Political Science major from North Miami Beach, Florida,
and Jamie Colby, a Civil Engineering major from Hillsboro, New Hampshire,
have been nominated to represent the University in the prestigious
Rhodes Scholar selection process. [More]

2nd Annual William D. Cahill Alumni Hockey Game brought both the
young and young-at-heart back to the Hill to renew old friendships,

The
Norwich Club of Washington, DC recently hosted a reception for President
Schneider and six Cadets who were in Washington for the Association
of the Unites States Army's (AUSA) annual convention. [More]

Every
time Hadwen Perry '52 looks down at his right hand, he has to pinch
himself to make sure he isn't dreaming. Staring up at him is an
object he was separated from for 53 years - one that he was sure

holiday events scheduled for Dec. 5
Norwich University Alumni, Parents, and Friends are cordially invited to attend the following seasonal events taking place on Sunday, December 5:
· FONUL holiday reception featuring artist Sabra Field, 3-4:30
p.m., Kreitzberg Library Multipurpose Room.
· Holiday Concert with performances by the Regimental Chorus,
Regimental Band, and Grenadiers Jazz Ensemble at 3:00 p.m., White
