Question
of the Month:
Where
will Norwich Football finish this season in the Freedom Football
Conference?
- First
- Second
- Third
- Fourth
Thanks
to all of you who replied to last month's question, "If you
attended Homecoming and/or Family Weekend, what surprised
you the most about the campus?" We appreciate your wonderful
comments and are glad to know how much our alumni enjoy Homecoming
weekend. We welcome your visits to campus, so please stop
in whenever you are in the area. We'd love to see you....
"It's not just one thing. It's the collective impact
of so many positive projects, like the new civilian dorm
floor at Crawford and the growing strength of the Corps. It's
all the fresh paint and fresh faces that are
indicative of a thriving campus (military and civilian) that
is stimulating for everyone." Fred Morsheimer
'70
"Wonderful time all around. The campus and students
looked great." Schuyler Cunniff '63
"The whole campus impressed me. It was clean and all
the "new" buildings that went up since my days on
the hill are most impressive. Also, the Corps of Cadets never
looked so good." Art Griffith '58
"My
husband, Art Zbinden '68, and [I] had a FABULOUS weekend!
The campus couldn't possibly be more beautiful!" Jean
Martin Zbinden VC '67
"I
remarked to the other 7 members of my family (there were 8
of us back) that this isn't your father's Norwich - it is
far better - with great leaders at the top like we have now
- there is no telling where this great University can go!
The campus looks great; the Corps never looked better; there
is an aura of Success which seems to permeate the entire institution."
Burt Mullen '62
"I started at Norwich in 1962 and graduated in 1966.
The trees on the upper parade ground were planted
in 1961. They still had their guide wires attached during
my rook year. The first homecoming that I
attended was in 1981. I couldn't get over how big those trees
had gotten. The buildings don't change
much, except for the new ones, but those trees tell me how
much time has gone by." Kurt E. Schlotterbeck 66'

NU
trustee receives prestigious West Point award
Board
of Trustee Chairman Gen. Gordon Sullivan '59 (USA, Retired) has
been named the 2003 recipient of the Thayer Award from the US
Military Academy at West Point. [More] "I
Will Try!"
At
the recent meeting of the Norwich University Board of Trustees,
held on Norwich's Northfield, Vermont, campus, the Board approved
the designation of "I Will Try!" as the official motto
of the University. The previously accepted motto of "Essayons!",
which for a number of years had been incorrectly attributed to
former Norwich President Colonel Truman Bishop Ransom, was adopted
by the Board in the early 70s. Thanks to extensive research undertaken
by Professor Gary Lord, it was discovered Colonel Ransom did not,
in fact, coin the expression "Essayons!" and that "I
Will Try!" has been a part of the Norwich tradition since
the 1830s. Given his findings, the Board of Trustees agreed to
reinstate "I Will Try!" to its rightful place at Norwich.
Our thanks to Professor Lord for his detailed research into our
history and to the Board of Trustees for their decision to reinstate
such an integral part of Norwich history and tradition.

Nursing at Norwich
Enrollment
is up in the Norwich University nursing program, in part due to
students seeking a second career option in a lackluster economy.
The fall sophomore class boasts a 40% increase. Hopefully this increased
