Honor Code

The Honor Code provides a foundation for a way of life at Norwich and in the community. It is the cornerstone for the development of self-respect, good character, loyalty, justice and generosity. The Honor Code requires that every student conduct himself/herself in a completely honest and forthright manner at all times, whether at the university or in the community.

As a Norwich student, you accept the responsibility of living by the Honor Code.

The Honor Code describes the standard of ethical behavior by which all students have chosen to live. Its underlying principle is truth, and means a Norwich University student will not: Lie, cheat, steal, evade the truth, deceive or tolerate those who do.

Dress and grooming standards

Policies for dress and grooming standards for all students are established to promote the values and traditions upon which the university was founded. Dress and grooming standards promote a decorum that maximizes learning and minimizes distractions. Specifics are contained in the NU Student Rules and Regulations.

Freshman cadets will wear the prescribed uniform the vast majority of their time here at the university, from their arrival day. As such, their uniform will be prescribed. In the few instances when a freshman cadet is allowed to wear civilian clothing, that will be prescribed based upon their available attire. Freshman cadets who anticipate being members of fall and / or winter traveling athletic teams should bring a business attire outfit with them when they report in August.

New civilian students should have at least one business attire outfit and one or more business casual outfits. Clothing for class and activities should be modest and conservative. Normal class or dining hall attire does not include swimwear, sleepwear, pajamas or PT clothing.

The university prohibits hats (including any head coverings not prescribed by a physician) in administrative buildings (including the dining hall) and academic buildings. Also, the wearing of any garment that contains alcohol or drug related logos or symbols, or other logos, slogans or sayings that contain profane or vulgar language is prohibited on the NU campus.

Business attire, casual business attire and normal class attire are defined in the NU Student Rules and Regulations.
